It appears that Bryce Dallas Howard is hip on playing Poison Ivy in the upcoming DCEU supervillain movie Gotham City Sirens, that is if a new tweet from the actress has some sort of meaning to it. In the ever-expanding DCEU roster, Gotham City Sirens is definitely one of the films in development that’s attracting a lot of attention. Following up the blockbuster success of Suicide Squad, director David Ayer is at the helm for the spinoff film, which will feature the femme fatale trio of Poison Ivy, Catwoman and Harley Quinn.
Although Ayer is set to direct and Margot Robbie is expected to return as Harley Quinn following her introduction in Suicide Squad, the character’s two counterparts have yet to be cast.
A Twitter user asked Howard Saturday, “Would you be willing to play Poison Ivy” to which Howard simply responded, “She’s pretty badass.” Accompanying the response was a muscle-flexing emoji and a GIF of Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy from Batman & Robin, flirting with the dynamic duo (George Clooney and Chris O’Donnell).

With the brewing anticipation for the June release of Wonder Woman and November’s Justice League, any hints of interest from the likes of Howard in the DCEU is cause enough for excitement – and speculation. Does the tweet mean that she’s genuinely interested in the role, or is she just pulling a Poison Ivy and playing coy with fans? Of course, Howard’s fiery red hair makes her a natural for the role, and following the success of Jurassic World, she would carry quite a bit of star power with her. Her profile has definitely risen since the critically maligned Spider-Man 3, in which she went blonde to play Peter Parker’s love interest Gwen Stacy.
If Howard ends up pursuing Poison Ivy, it looks like she’ll have some serious competition. Her Hollywood lookalike Jessica Chastain recently said that she’s “interested in all things where the characters are strong and dynamic, and not stereotypes or objects,” and “if Poison Ivy happens to be that” to throw her “hat in the ring.” Also reportedly circling the role are Megan Fox and Mr. Robot’s Stephanie Corneliussen.
Having inherited her acting chops from actor-turned-director father Ron Howard and experience in blockbuster action films, there’s no doubt that Bryce Dallas Howard is a solid contender should she choose to pursue the role. Time is also on her side. Since Gotham City Sirens is still in the developmental phase, Howard will have more than enough time to finish work on director J.A. Bayona’s Jurassic World 2, which is due in June 2018. In the meantime, let’s hope we see more tweets from Howard soon to gauge any sort of legitimate interest in the classic DC villainess.
