Spider-Man: Homecoming Testing Very Well, Says Robert Downey Jr movieripe
Robert Downey Jr. revealed that early screenings for Spider-Man: Homecoming are receiving positive reactions. The actor who plays Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) joins the Tom Holland-led film a sort of unofficial mentor to Peter Parker as the younger hero meanders his ways to the world of superheroes.

Downey Jr. has been the poster boy for the MCU since the first Iron Man film in 2008 launched what could arguably be called the biggest movie franchise in the history of film. Since then, he has appeared in six MCU installments (with the exception of his mid-credits tag in Edward Norton’s The Incredible Hulk) with Homecoming being his seventh outing as the “genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist” character.

In a recent Facebook Live event, Downey Jr. offered an update to his fans about how Homecoming is doing in early testings.

“This Homecoming thing turned out very well… People have been starting early screenings of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and they say it’s absolutely a 10 out of 10. I certainly enjoyed participating in it, and I think this will be one of the big Summer hits. Anyway, these L.A. premieres are usually pretty fun.”

Downey Jr. previously admitted that he still has not seen the film, though he and Holland have begun promoting Spider-Man: Homecoming in earnest, including an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Holland and host Jimmy Kimmel meanwhile have already sampled it and both have nothing but glowing reviews for the movie. Kimmel for his part said, “It is easily the best Spider-Man movie,” and that it felt like the same Peter Parker he has read about in the comics. Holland, on the other hand, shared that he was “over the moon” with the finished product.

It is no secret that a lot is riding on Homecoming, not only with Holland’s iteration but also the business partnership that was struck between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios. The new Pater Parker’s introduction in last year’s Captain America: Civil War was met with positive feedback. And although some were still skeptical about Holland taking on the role, arguing that the sample size from Cap 3 is too small to come to a conclusion, his character arc seems to be consistent from Civil War to the promo trailers and teasers for his standalone film.

With all the excitement bubbling over the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming marking Peter Parker’s dive into the world of MCU, there was some backlash from the marketing of the film. This includes some of the trailers revealing too much of the film narrative and the ridiculed ensemble poster.
