Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man makes an aggressive guest appearance as Avengers: Infinity War gets the Weird Trailer treatment. The first real Infinity War trailer dropped last November, followed by a second trailer that debuted during the Super Bowl. The two clips together teased a ton of developments in the new film, including Thor’s meet-up with the Guardians of the Galaxy. And, of course, the clips gave us our first look at Josh Brolin as Thanos, the cosmic supervillain set to battle Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
With almost $3 billion in combined worldwide grosses, the first two Avengers films rank among the biggest blockbusters in movie history. Disney and Marvel now hope to keep the juggernaut rolling with the third installment Infinity War. To achieve maximum impact in a world of superhero oversaturation, Infinity War will feature just about every established MCU character coming together to defend earth against Thanos. Armed with the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos is an all-powerful space God who promises to bring death and devastation to the universe. Obviously, this raises the stakes higher than ever for Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man and all the gang.
Thanks to YouTube artist Aldo Jones, we can now enjoy a somewhat more light-hearted take on the very serious action set to break out when Infinity War hits theaters. This new remixed Infinity War trailer is part of Jones’ popular Weird Trailers series, which previously took on Spider-Man: Homecoming. Basically, Jones takes trailers and adds stuff to make them weird (not complicated). His Infinity War Weird Trailer is loaded with wild cameos and strange gags, many involving Tobey Maguire. See the trailer above.
In Aldo Jones’ version of Infinity War, Thanos is no longer a scary, universe-destroying cosmic deity. Instead, he’s a bit of a goofball. No, the real villain of Weird Trailers Infinity War is not Thanos but Tobey Maguire. Looking crazier than usual, Maguire invades the MCU, apparently bitter about being replaced as Spider-Man. In one of the clip’s more elaborate moments, Maguire swoops in, grabs Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and chucks him right out of the movie. Kind of rude.
Maguire pops up over-and-over in the clip, but he’s not the only famous face who shows up. Matt Damon makes a quick appearance, flying off into space a la The Martian. A Cremulon from Rick and Morty then speeds toward our planet…speaking of things that are scarier than Thanos. The Cremulon takes up a position over New York, setting off Spider-Man’s spidey-sense. “Show me what you got,” the massive floating yellow cheese-like head commands. And some ladies in a bus indeed show him what they got. Nothing like a little nod to bawdy ’80s humor.
The gags come fast and furious throughout the Avengers: Infinity War Weird Trailer. At one point, Rick and Morty themselves show up to take care of Kim Jong-Un. There’s also a fun bit where Black Panther does the Macarena. And don’t worry, Aldo Jones gets in his shots at Disney too. Putting it simply, if Jones is right in his prediction about Disney’s next acquisition, the next Avengers might include a certain Caped Crusader.
