Exclusive: Thanos Attack on Wakanda Will Have Lasting Ramifications

Avengers: Infinity War star Chadwick Boseman, who played the title role in Marvel’s Black Panther, has confirmed that the film will have lasting effects upon the secretive nation of Wakanda. What those effects are, however, remains to be seen.

Preview photos and trailers for Avengers: Infinity War have already confirmed Wakanda as a setting for the film. Though the precise details of the movie’s plot are a closely guarded secret, it is known that it will center around the intergalactic despot Thanos and his arrival on Earth. As in the comics, Thanos seeks the six Infinity Stones – artifacts of phenomenal cosmic power that allow their bearers total control over various aspects of reality, including Time and Space.

In an interview with us during the press junket for Avengers: Infinity War, Boseman spoke about the Mad Titan’s attack on Wakanda. Given the scope of the battle to come and the threat that Thanos poses even before he acquires a fully powered Infinity Gauntlet, Boseman agreed that there is no way for the fight not to have a major influence upon Wakanda’s future.

“This would be the biggest battle (0r) war that’s hit Wakanda ever, I would say. So you have to have lasting ramifications.”

It would be an understatement to say that Thanos’ arrival is sure to have a lasting effect upon Wakanda, regardless of the outcome. The nation is notoriously secretive, featuring an advanced culture that has remained hidden from the world at large in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for centuries thanks to the advanced technology developed from the rare deposits of Vibranium on which the nation rests. One of the sequences during the closing credits of the Black Panther movie revealed King T’Challa’s intention to reveal the truth about his nation to the United Nations and the world at large.

Although it is unclear at the present time just how long after the events of Black Panther that Avengers: Infinity War is set, Wakanda’s exposure to the world is bound to have effects on the nation that are at least as revolutionary as the coming of Thanos. Indeed, one wonders if it is the revelations of just how advanced Wakanda is that make them a target of Thanos’ wrath. Destroying Earth’s most advanced nation would be an effective way for the Mad Titan to make his presence and power known with a minimum of effort. Thankfully, fans will not have long to speculate on this fight.
