Killer Frost might not be reverting to Caitlin Snow anytime soon, as the character may continue to pose a threat well into next season of The Flash. For almost three seasons now, the threat of metas has continued to grow on the Arrowverse series. And while more than a few of the new superpowered individuals have proven to be speedsters, many are armed with a vast array of powers. Luckily, friends like Wally and Cisco have become metas as well, assisting Barry in the field. Of course, not every friend-turned-meta has remained a hero.
After Killer Frost appeared last season as a villain over on Earth 2, our version of Caitlin Snow has been slowly morphing into the ice-powered meta as well. For reasons still unexplained, this shift has also begun turning her evil. While she’s mostly been able to keep the transformation under control thanks to some tech, a recent brush with death brought the Killer Frost persona bursting to the surface. The next episode will see Killer Frost return to cause trouble for our heroes, and she won’t be defeated anytime soon.
It is already known that Frost will be back next week, but thanks to EW, it looks as if the character will remain a threat into next season. When Danielle Panabaker was asked about the future of her character, she revealed that her Killer Frost persona will at least continue through the finale. She said:
“It’s going to be great. Obviously I am involved a little bit more in the finale this time than I have been in years past. From a totally biased perspective, it’s great to see a lot more of the familiar faces. Last year, it was Barry vs. Zoom, and obviously this year there’s a lot more speedsters, there’s a lot more powers, so invariably, I think you’re going to get to see a bigger, better battle.”
As for the difference between Snow and Frost, it looks as if the upcoming episode will start to examine the split, which will likely generate some powerful scenes for Panabaker.
“I don’t know if we’ll even be able to see Caitlin again, but as you’ll see in episode 21, it becomes clear that Caitlin Snow and Killer Frost do occupy the same body and that they have the same memories. The things Caitlin remembers, Killer Frost can access as well. It’s more a question of if she chooses to and how she feels about Caitlin’s memories. I do think it will be difficult not only for Caitlin but all of team flash to reconcile Killer Frost’s bad behavior under the guise Caitlin Snow’s face.”
Given the added layers of the character and the growing scope of Team Flash, it certainly makes sense to keep Panabaker in the role of a rogue. It also lines her up with her comic book counterpart more. But whether Killer Frost will continue into season 4 or not, Panabaker will continue to be a presence on the show according to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg:
“Obviously Danielle Panabaker is not going anywhere. How and if she becomes Caitlin Snow again, or she remains Killer Frost or a version of Killer Frost, into season 4, you’re going to have to tune in.”
Regardless of what the future holds, Killer Frost will be back in a big way tomorrow night on The Flash. From there, viewers will just have to wait and see what the future holds for the character.
The Flash season 3 continues Tuesday with ‘I Know Who You Are’ @8pm on The CW.
