Wonder Woman UK Premiere Canceled in Light of Manchester Attack movieripe
Warner Bros. is cancelling its U.K. premiere of Wonder Woman following the recent terrorist attack in the city of Manchester. Immediately following an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester’s MEN Arena on Monday night, a bomb exploded, killing 22 people and injuring 59 others. Many of the victims were young children, with one of the fatalities being only 8 years old.

The attacker died at the scene, but with ISIS claiming responsibility for the bombing, the U.K. government, police, and Armed Forces are working to bring down a possible network of terrorists operating in the country. In light of these circumstances, the U.K. government has raised the terrorist threat level from severe to critical, meaning that another attack is imminent. In turn, this means heightened security everywhere, and the Army has been drafted in to help with keeping the U.K.’s cities and streets a safe place to be.

It is these events that has lead to Warner Bros’. decision to cancel the U.K. premiere of Wonder Woman, as a WB spokesperson confirmed to us via the following statement:

Our thoughts are with those affected by the recent tragedy in the UK. In light of the current situation, we will not be proceeding with our plans for the Wonder Woman premiere and junket activities in London.

This decision by WB is a mark of respect to those who lost their lives, as well as a precaution to ensure the safety of those who would be attending such a large-scale event. With many fans expected to turn out, it would be impossible for either the police or the army to search every crowd member, and as such, it is safer to cancel the event altogether. Meanwhile, of course, thoughts are with those who lost loved ones in the Manchester attack.

Wonder Woman is set to officially open in theaters around the globe on June 2nd, with Gal Gadot starring in the titular role opposite Chris Pine as Steve Trevor. Wonder Woman is the most anticipated Summer 2017 movie according to a recent poll by Fandango users, beating out the likes of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The movie follows Diana Prince, an Amazonian Princess and trained warrior. When she rescues an American pilot (Pine), she leaves her island to fight alongside him in World War I, where Diana discovers her true powers.

Wonder Woman shows unbelievable strength, dignity, courage and poise, all while facing prejudice, adversity, and conflict. It is perhaps, these values that we should take forward in the light of this attack and in the following weeks.
